Brain Surgery Saves 15-year-old Girl

A 15-year-old Long Island girl is pain free and enjoying the great passion of her life -- playing volleyball -- just two months after surgery to remove a brain tumor that previously would have been inoperable. Dr. Steven Schneider, a pediatric neurosurgeon at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, was the first surgeon in New York to use a new, minimally invasive technology called NICO BrainPath® to remove a tumor that was buried in the area of her brain controlling movement and language skills. The new device is integrated with other advanced technology in brain navigation, brain mapping, tumor removal, optics and resection to create a so-called Six Pillar approach to neurosurgery. Cohen is the only US children’s hospital offering this groundbreaking surgical approach.
