Deaf Health Services
Cohen Children's Medical Center is committed to providing health care access to deaf patients and deaf family members. To meet this goal, we have a full-time certified sign language interpreter on staff and a team of qualified interpreters available for evenings and weekends. If you are making an appointment for outpatient services and would like a sign language interpreter, please ask the receptionist to call us in advance or call us directly at (516) 465-3270 (voice). If you need our services on a weekday, please ask the staff to page us at beeper 25-5065. On nights and weekends, call the pager operators at (718) 470-7000 and they will contact the assigned on-call interpreter.
To provide telephone services for the deaf, TTY pay phones are located in the Emergency Department waiting area, in the lobbies of Cohen Children's Medical Center, Long Island Jewish Hospital, and the Oncology building. If your child is admitted to the hospital, a TTY will be provided at no cost through TV rental at Extension 7055. Closed captioning is available through our TV service as well.
