Frequently Asked Questions
What are your time commitments?
The minimum time commitment is 3 hours a week for a total of 100 hours of service (approximately 6 months of service). You must be able to commit to coming in on a weekly basis.
How old must I be?
The minimum age to volunteer is 14 years of age. If you are under 18 years of age we ask that you parent or legal guardian sign your application and accompany you to the orientation.
What is the process?
Once your application is received, it is reviewed and assessed. If we have an opening for the time, day, and program you are interested in, you will be contacted for an interview. After the interview, you will have a medical screening provided by the hospital at no cost. You will attend a 3 hour Volunteer Services orientation and complete a criminal background and child abuse registry check. We require a social security number in order to complete the criminal background check. Once these steps are completed, you are ready to begin!
How long does it take to be processed?
On average, once you have been interviewed it takes 4-6 weeks to be completely processed and ready to volunteer.
Is there a dress code?
Yes. Volunteers are not allowed to wear blue jeans, sweatpants, sweatshirts open toe shoes, t-shirts or shorts. All volunteers will be given a polo shirt or collard shirt that they must wear while volunteering.
Can I volunteer just for the summer?
Yes. Summer volunteers must commit to a minimum of 8 hours a week for 8-10 we eks. Summer applications are due by April 1st and you must complete the physical, orientation and background check NO later than June 1st. If you are not available to volunteer for the entire summer, please do not apply to the summer volunteer program.
If I volunteer will I get a job at the hospital?
Volunteering at the hospital does not guarantee employment.
How long do you keep applications?
Applications are held for three months only. If you do not complete the process within three months your application will be discarded (unless otherwise approved by volunteer services).
